Medication Competency Training Course for Care Workers
Build Confidence in Safe Medication Administration
Auscare’s Medication Competency Course (21C) is a practical, short course designed for aged care and disability support workers who assist with the administration of prescribed medications. This nationally recognised training ensures you meet industry standards for safe medication support, with a focus on dose administration aids such as Webster Packs.
This 4-hour course combines online theory with a hands-on practical session to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge to safely and effectively assist clients with medication. Completion of the online theory is a mandatory requirement before attending the in-person training session.
What You’ll Learn
Participants will engage in role-play, case studies, class discussions, and real-world scenarios to learn how to:
- Assist in the safe administration of medications
- Understand various medication types and their effects
- Adhere to legal and ethical requirements
- Follow best practices in infection control and documentation
Topics Covered Include:
- Current Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation (e.g., Drugs and Poisons Act, Aged Care Act, Disability Services Acts)
- Work health and safety (WHS) obligations
- Duty of care and professional boundaries
- Standard and additional infection control precautions
- Accurate medication documentation and record-keeping
Course Format and Assessment
- Blended delivery: Online theory + face-to-face practical (4 hours)
- Informal assessment: Designed to reflect real workplace applications
- Certificate of completion provided – participants are deemed Medication Competent upon successful completion.
